A proposal was written in 2011 for a University Technical College for Preston - a top-tier academy providing specialist education for 14-19 year olds.
We support choice in education - but Preston City Council can't actually tell us how much of the taxpayer's money was spent on this vanity project, that they seemingly abandoned at the first hurdle. News sources suggest, however, that it was at least £10 million - enough to pay for 435 nurses; not a sum we should just throw away.
We believe that we should continue to fight for the Preston Guild UTC - our children deserve a world-class education, and this is one of the many ways we can help turn the city we love into a high-tech, digital economy.
UCLan is due to invest £20m in an engineering centre - this would tie fantastically into the Preston Guild UTC's specialisms in civil engineering, construction, architecture, and design.
